Hello Family and Friends!
It’s been a year of adjustment as we’ve settled into our new home in San Diego while raising a curious toddler. Isla turned one in May and has been entertaining us with her mischievous ways. Her latest fashion is to wear multiple pairs of Mommy’s underwear around her neck while adorning her arms with “bracelets” made out of toilet-paper rolls. But aside from the trials and tribs of parenting, we’re having a hoot down here in So Cal and love the warm weather. Just the other day an ice-cream truck rolled by our house—in December!
Merry Christmas and best wishes for a bright and happy new year!
Love,
Alika, Mason, Isla, & Gecko

Dear family and friends,
After a combined 24 years of living in San Francisco, we’re packing up and sailing south to “Sunny D” (aka, San Diego)! We’re aiming to settle into a house with more elbow room than our humble SF apartment offers, so everyone can visit us and the new babe. Yes, our beautiful daughter, Isla Valentine, was born May 17 (7 lbs, 6 oz, 21”). Gecko has been demoted from top dog to second fiddle as this lil’ pumpkin rules the Cocomoon.
Wishing everyone the happiest of holidays and a bright and bountiful new year!
Lots of love,
Alika, Mason, Isla, & Gecko

Dear Friends and Family,
Despite being wiped out during this year’s stock market crash, we were able to afford our first home–on wheels. This ’71 beaut gets 3 mpg on the open road, 1 in the city, and she purrs like a polar bear–maybe that’s because she needs a muffler. We know what you’re thinking: When can I visit? Well, any time, so long as you don’t mind a few bumps in the road. All we have to do is unroll the guest suite and attach it to the trailer hitch and you’ll get the best view in town! But you better come quick ’cause we may end up using this makeshift room as a nursery. You heard right, we’re due to have ourselves a little bundle of joy sometime this May. We’re not sure where to put Gecko, but he seems to like the sun, so maybe the rooftop will do.
This year’s been a roller coaster, what with the presidential election (woo-hoo!) and Prop 8 (boo!) and Alika’s brother as the new Mayor of Coronado (yay!). We also have new jobs (Mason’s working at a new design firm making web and mobile application, Alika’s at a nonprofit helping to raise funds for vision research). We should be back on track before the little one joins our family. Hope all is well with you and best wishes for a hootenanny of a new year!
Love,
Alika, Mason, & Gecko

Dear Bellyrubbers,
This year I turned three, which is 21 in dog years, so you bet I partied it up! Or I would have if my owners had made the mistake of spilling wine on the floor. But they were too busy getting married in San Diego and honeymooning in Puerto Vallarta last July to feed me any table scraps, let alone alcoholic leftovers. Apparently the ceremony and reception were fun (I wouldn’t know since I wasn’t even invited) and all the friends and family had a super time. I did get to meet a few bellyrubbers and sneak some Milk-Bones, so it wasn’t a complete loss.
Other than that, things have been pretty dull around here with the Mason busy with his ad agency career and the Alika working on writing and editing. If I’m lucky, I can catch a dog nap in the sun between the San Francisco fog banks. And now they have this lit-up tree inside our den that I’m not allowed to sniff or pee on. Owners are so weird. But they continue to feed me and smother me with blankets and chew toys, so hopefully this free ride will last for awhile. As long as they don’t put that Santa hat on me again, I’ll be a happy pup!
Snort,
Gecko
