Archive for 'Friends'
4th of July
We celebrated this Independence Day by having friends come over to the Cocomoon for a good old-fashioned BBQ. Jason brought Isla a giant bear and later Isla sported her hand-knit dress that Auntie Adelle made her. Wow!
Circumnavigation
On July 3rd, we participated in the 2nd Annual Circumnavigation held in Coronado. About 200+ people gathered in Star Park and proceeded to ride their respective bikes around the small and scenic city of Coronado. As Mayor Casey Tanaka put it, “It’s like Critical Mass but without the political agenda. It’s just a bunch of people who didn’t have anything better to do.” Mason and I were lucky enough to borrow bikes from Kai’s friends (since it’s tourist season, all the rental shops were sold out of bikes). Next year we hope to have our own wheels!
Brian, Cindy, & Jack Visit!
This month we were happy to visit with our long-time friends Brian, Cindy, and their son Jack (almost a year older than Isla). They used to live in San Francisco, where we met, but now live in Los Angeles. We wish we could see them more often!
Two!
We had fun celebrating Isla’s 2nd birthday today with family and friends. The theme was “island,” as in Isla
She giggled when everyone sang happy birthday to her and clapped after wards. She also has been having a lot of fun saying all the colors, counting up to five, surprising us with new words (such as “armpit” and “goldfish”), and of course she loves to dance!
Thanksgiving 2010
We hosted our first Thanksgiving at the Cocomoon! This gave Karin a break after doing the whole feast herself for approximately 38 years. Whew! This year we had help from our friend Jason, who is an excellent cook. The rest of the family pitched in by bringing some of the side dishes and pies. Yum!
Summer in SD
A busy month! We celebrated our third wedding anniversary on July 21 (we’ve been together for about nine years now)!
Isla is officially walking and getting into all kinds of mischief!
Our friends Camila and Andrew and their two sons Cassius (2 1/2 years) and Kane (8 months) visited us from San Francisco. What a treat!
Next month we are looking forward to spending some time with the Indiana clan. Wish us luck on the plane!

Isla can be a big goofball when she’s in the mood!
The Big Move
Today, December 22, 2009, after an unnerving roller coaster ride of house hunting, loan approval, and dealing with the diabolical ways of investors, we finally closed escrow on our first home! Moving out from our San Francisco apartment after 6 1/2 years of living there was a bittersweet experience. We’ll miss our friends and the many attractions that SF has to offer, but living in Sunny D will have its own share of rewards. Happy trails!

Cassius plays hide-and-seek in our old cupboards.

Camila, Andrew, and baby Kane ham it up for a final hurrah. We hope they visit us soon!

Take that sign down!
